Ruby's beginning
Ruby and her dam Jewel. The mare was extremely bruised
from the birth and in shock. She would only let the new filly nurse when she
was drugged. She also started not producing enough milk for Ruby.

a trailer we brought her in the car to meet Synbona.
Ruby Tuesday and Synbona
This is one of those special horse stories. The half
Arabian half Saddlebred filly Ruby was rejected by her mother. She did manage
to get enough milk from her mother at first, with the help of her owners
and friends. She bonded with humans more than her horse mother. For her first
week she was supplemented with goats milk while her mother was sort of forced
to let her nurse. She needed a horse to be close to and learn how to be horse
from. That is where Bonnie (Synbona) comes in. She is a 31 year old Arabian
mare who has had many babies. She has not had a baby in 7 years, but she
took to Ruby right away. She even lets her nurse although she has no milk
(yet).
Ruby nurses on Synbona, she doesn't mind too much that
Bon Bon is not lactating.

human Mom.
Ruby goes through 4 to 5 gallons of goat milk a day with
her self feeder.
